Calabria enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate. The Ionian coast is more hot and dry than Tyrrhenian coast and one of the most hot of Italy. Crossing areas of the Interior, to the mountains of Silas, it is possible to find different microclimates and a wide variety of vegetation.
Summer
The summer is the hottest time of year with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees in August. Humidity is not too bad in general, although August sees the highest levels.
Winter
In winter the temperature shows marked differences between coasts and the Interior. While on the coasts the average temperature of January is about 10 ° C, in the inland areas, nearly half of the region, it can reach 4 °C. Over and above 1,500 m altitude on Sila and 1,700 m on Aspromonte, temperature can easily fall below zero.
The ideal time to visit Calabria is during the seasons of spring and fall. April to early June and September to October bring mild, pleasant temperatures.
